I was interviewed by José Luis Iñiguez last night (photo of his studio below). We talked for 90 minutes about so many things– assimilation as an immigrant on his end– the camouflaging that takes place living between home and “home” in relation to the assimilation as an indigenous person who grew up on and off reservations, the idea of the hand and craft versus institutional streamlining (the idea of having a “clean” product), objects as vessels for presence, etc. Waking up today super inspired and thankful for his work.
The interview comes out in a few weeks but one of those super uplifting moments.
José will be performing at SOMArts in conjunction with the Black Salt exhibition on January 14th in the gallery.
